Author Guest Post and Giveaway!!! Volition Series by Shawn Maravel

Today I'm happy to introduce the talented and beautiful Shawn Maravel for an Author Override, while she talks about her Volition Series and the music that inspired it! Keep reading for her guest post and enter in your chance to get your hands on an eBook copy of both Volition and Severance, which have received great reviews!

The Volition Series: Music & Lyrics
I’ve always found that music helps in the creative process of my writing. I don’t listen to it while I write but when I’m brainstorming ideas or taking a step back from the story, songs that remind me of the story or characters seem to help provide me with additional inspiration. A song may lean towards being a “story theme song” or maybe more along the lines of “background music” for a certain scene. Either way, I’ve found in a lot of ways that I can enhance a scene or a character when keeping certain songs in mind.

Volition, the first book in the series is about a girl, Charlotte who meets Joel, the mysterious stranger who rescues her from certain danger. She’s not sure if she can trust him but she has reason to believe that she should. She goes as far as to believe that somehow…she knows him.
I found the song Perfect Stranger by Michael Castro while writing Volition and right away I knew that it was dead on to the story. It quickly became “Joel’s Song”.
The song “Your Guardian Angel” by Red Jumpsuit Apparatus is a close second on the “soundtrack”.

“Where do we go from here,
I can't believe I hardly know you,
So why do I feel this way?
Like I don't know what to say,
Beginning of the weekend,
And I was just thinking what you doing,
For the rest of your life,

Oh, I'm falling for an angel for all I know,
I better play it safe and just let you go,
There's no such thing as a perfect stranger”

Severance, the sequel to Volition, has a whole different feel to it. In Volition Joel is controlled and certain of himself and his purpose in life. In Severance however a few things happen that cause him to experience unyielding and raw emotions that he’s not too sure he knows what to do with.
No matter what he does he isn’t the same man he used to be. He yearns for Charlotte in a way he never used to before and he questions himself constantly. Is he enough, can he still protect her?
The song Beast of Burden originally done by the Rolling Stones (I prefer Lee Dewyze’s version best) stuck out to me as the perfect song to describe how Joel was feeling. Especially when it comes to…uh, ya know…being physical, he has to kind of hold himself back at first.

“I'll never be your beast of burden
I've walked for miles my feet are hurting
All I want is for you to make love to me

Am I hard enough
Am I rough enough
Am I rich enough
I'm not too blind to see”

Volition

Charlotte Rush would be the first to admit that her life is no roller-coaster ride. Her days are laced with ordinary and at times boring monotony. But with a heart that finds itself frequently broken she's happy to say that she's content.

When her friends convince her to spend the night out at a club to let loose and maybe even find a guy, she finally admits that her life might be missing something.

No sooner does she let go of her inhibitions does she find herself waking up in a dark hotel room in the presence of Joel, a man who carries mystery in his eyes and familiarity in his smile. Against reason Charlotte decides to trust him based solely on one thing. Somehow, she is sure that she knows him.

In a race against time to find answers and to solve the crime committed against her Charlotte finds herself falling for him. However, with nothing but mystery surrounding him she can't even be sure that he's the hero at all. While knowing all of the right things to say he still manages to tell her nothing. As a battle is waged over the innocence of her cryptic stranger, Charlotte discovers that much greater danger awaits her. And the mysteries behind who and what Joel is will lead Charlotte to discover that heaven and earth are not so far apart.

Severance

Severance is the bone-chilling, adrenaline-filled sequel to Volition. Charlotte finds herself hoping against reason that her life couldn't really have taken the devastating turn that it has. With Joel still dangerously out of the picture, and no signs that he may ever come back, she finds herself up against an even more dangerous threat. A sexy and cunning threat that is bound to tear what she has always known to be her reality down for good.

When things finally start to look up, another curve-ball is thrown her way, promising to give her what she'd hoped for since meeting Joel, an answer it seems that came a little too late. What Charlotte thought she'd once known to be the truth filters through her fingers, leaving her to believe that her world and the afterworld are much more tangled than she'd originally expected. She comes to find that love and lust are no longer the sole deciders of her fate, but revenge. A lifetime of secrets unfold and Charlotte discovers that Joel hasn't been the only one watching over her all of these years.

And those books look amazing, especially their covers but there's so much to read now, so I guess I'll pass for this giveaway.:/ Great post though! It's cool that songs can spawn inspiration. Usually songs distract me from what I'm doing, lol.:P

Thank you for such a great giveaway! And yes, I find music very inspirational. For both my work as an artist and when working out, finding the right music can really lift me up. The funny thing is I always have the worst time when people ask me my favorite band or type of music I like!

Yes, music definitely inspires me! If I'm feeling down, I listen to peppy music to perk me up. If I have to do a bunch of housework that I keep putting off (lol) I'll put on some dance music and that makes it go so much faster! I listen to music a lot, and don't know what I would do if I couldn't :)

I think Music inspires me a lot more than anything else! I listen to A LOT of music, so the lyrics of a song are always playing away in the back of my head. :)
