I wrote As Night Falls, Book 1 of the Scarred Skies Series, to the Christmas music blaring through the Kohl’s sound system.
I was going to school full time to be a court reporter, working two nearly full-time jobs, and three part-time jobs. Kohls was one of the nearly full-time jobs and the one that I, apparently, had the most time to think, brainstorm and write.
*winces and shakes head* Oh, yes. I wrote this story on the back of receipts and that paper that’s on hangers. There were some paper towels used and…*scuffs toe* toilet paper. Oh yes. The café scene was written on toilet paper and paper towels in the middle of a pretty ugly snow storm. There weren’t many customers, and it just came. I used whatever I had on hand. I couldn’t carry a notebook with me, but I could make the paper towel or the toilet paper look like it belonged at the register…and I could shove it in my pocket or in my bra. *grinning shrug*
Just a note: The cheap facial tissue that’s only 1-ply was never intended to be written on. It doesn’t matter what pen you use.
When I came home, the girls were already in bed. I had to be quiet so I wouldn’t wake them. After all the noise and chaos of the day (I had one woman throw a pen at me, another guy threw a shoe at me. Christmas is the season of ugly in retail), typing what I’d written to a symphony of silence was remarkable!
I think that was the worst sound track I’ve ever had for a book in my life! OMW!
Although, there are a few close seconds. *remembering* Like the time I wrote Try Taking Her Down in the van with my family as we drove to South Dakota for vacation. Yeah. The singing. And the complaining. Whew! That was rough.
LOL! It wasn’t until later that I discovered that writing to a real soundtrack was lovely and amazing. Book 2 of the Scarred Skies Series, Under A Kenda Moon’s soundtrack is being compiled as we speak, which is fun and exciting! There’s some Rob Dougan, some Tiesto, and some Escala. *happy nod* Oh, yes! I am SO excited to write that book! It’s going to be epic!
