Dark Swan Storm Born by Richelle Mead Graphic Novel Review and Giveaway! First Four Issues!

Title: Dark Swan, Storm Born Issue 1
Author: Richelle Mead and Grant Alter
Artist: Dave Hamann and Adam Markiewicz
Colorist: Nelson Cosentino De Oliveira
Genre: Urban Fantasy, Graphic Novel, Paranormal
Release Date: December 2011
My Rating:
Eugenie Markham never asked for any of this. Until now, she''s been content with her job as a freelance shaman, battling and banishing Otherworldly creatures. When a prophecy suddenly makes her the Otherworld''s most popular bachelorette, Eugenie finds herself fighting off unwanted supernatural suitors, as well as the evils that begin emerging from her past...

The majority of comics that I have read were the Archie Issues I would talk my mom into buying me when we went to the grocery store, so when I got the chance to review a real graphic novel I was ecstatic!
Even if you are not a fan of Mead’s books you will enjoy this paranormal romance brought to life before your eyes!

My Take on the Story: Eugenie is a strong shaman and when she is on a job, the spirit seems to know who she is….her real name, and even tries to get in her pants (that had never happened before).

Eug is offered a job to save Jasmine, a teenage girl who was kidnapped by Gentry (Fairies). But the job requires Eugenie to cross over into the otherworld, and that can be very dangerous. Eug struggles with what to do, and decides to get her mind off things and clear her head over a drink where she meets Kiyo, a sexy and charming man who strikes up a conversation with her.

When Egu goes home with Kiyo she didn’t expect to have the best and care free *love making* of her life, and she definitely didn’t expect for another demon to show up….
To be continued….

The Story and Content: I was afraid that when turning a novel into a comic you would lose the internal dialoged that really makes you connect with a character, but Storm Born Issue 1 did a wonderful job of providing enough internal dialog to help the reader get to know Eugenie and understand the story.

The characters are not only funny but unique, from Eug’s American Indian posing roommate Tim, to Roland, Eug’s shaman step-dad and mentor.

The Art: The best thing about turning a novel into a comic is the ability to bring the characters to life and give them facial expressions. Eugenie makes some of the cutest and interesting faces :) I loved how you could read so much written on her face.

The color was my favorite part about the graphic novel. The colors really popped, and brought the whole story to another dimension!

and now for some giveaway goodies....

I adore comics. They can make us, the readers, picture easier our favourite characters, and if we get to talk about Dark Swan main characters - then you hit a good spot.

Thank you for the giveaway!

I'm so excited about this giveaway!!! I've never really read a graphic novel, but this is one of my all time favorite series and it'd be so neat to see this come to life, especially (as you noted) E's facial expressions.

Thanks for an awesome giveaway!!!
