My Rating:
Sam Hopkins is bored with his status as a preacher's kid. So when a group of guys notorious for being in trouble offers him friendship, he accepts. Before long, he has several new skills—including hot-wiring cars.

At school, there's an eccentric loner named Jennifer. When Sam defends her from being bullied, she begins to seek him out as her only friend. Her ramblings often seem illogical . . . but then start to contain grains of truth. One leads Sam to discover that one of his new friends has been killed. And then she tells him, "I'm looking for the devil." Sam doesn't know what that means, but he knows it's a matter of life and death that he figure it out.

Everyone else thinks Jennifer is suffering from schizophrenia. But Sam is starting to wonder if there could be something prophetic in her words. Discovering the truth is going to be both crazy and dangerous.

Wow, what a suspenseful ride Crazy Dangerous was!
"You probably want to hear about Jennifer and the demons and how I played chicken with a freight train and—oh yeah—the weird murder and how I found out about it—you're definitely going to want to hear about that. But first, I have to tell you about the stupidest thing I ever did . . ."-Sam

Crazy Dangerous is told from two views. First we get to meet Sam Hopkins, the goodie goodie preacher’s son who wants, more than anything, for his classmates to accept him and stop tip toeing around him because of who his father is. Sam, in a freak show of spunk and guts, wins the friendship of the biggest bully in school and realizes this may be his “in” to the cool crowd. While Sam is spending his afternoons with Jeff and his thugs, learning how to hot wire cars, we meet our other speaker from the book, Jennifer.

Jennifer goes to school with Sam but doesn't fit in. She has a form of schizophrenia and is constantly picked on for the strange way she talks and the visions she sees. One day Sam runs into Jennifer in the woods on his way to tell Jeff he can no longer be friends with him and his gang, but Jeff shows up before Sam can get Jennifer out of harm’s way. Sam knows Jeff is going to do terrible things to Jennifer if he doesn’t interfere, so he throws the first punch and gives Jennifer the chance to get away.Jennifer has never had a friend before, and instantly becomes infatuated with Sam, her magical friend. The man who saved her when no one else would. She starts to tell Sam about her vision, and when Sam realizes they are coming true, it is up to him to save everyone from the terrible event Jennifer says will happen next.

It was amazing to be inside the head of a person with schizophrenia and I will never look at the disorder the same. Jennifer is terrorized with monsters that are in her head, but the more you read, the more you realize she may be more set in reality than everyone thinks. The author did an amazing job of making memorable characters and Sam was a delight to read about. He was smart and quick witted and had internal struggles that we can all relate too. You could visualize the action in your head as you read and I can see this book eventually being made into a YA Thriller on the big screen!

With a intriguing beginning, and one hell of an ending, I suggest you add Crazy Dangerous to your Reading list today! -Review by Cassie

The title of this book, Crazy Dangerous, is a very apt description of the story that follows. It is a tale that mixes the teen angst of a preacher’s son, who longs to fit in and become in what in his mind sees as “popular”, with the raving, but strangely prophetic visions of a mentally ill girl. The characters in this novel come across as very real and develop strong personalities as the novel progresses, especially the two main characters, Sam and Jennifer. The other people in the book are also flushed out very well and as a reader it is very easy to visualize each character and the interactions between them.

The plot of the book also keeps moving at a good pace and there are not many lulls in it. This is very good for the audience that this book is aimed at, teens/young adult who tend to have very short attention spans. There is plenty of action; more real world troubled teen, than James Bond. There is also plenty of creepiness included, mainly in the form of young Jennifer’s dialogue and trying to understand her bizarre thoughts. At the beginning of the book I was worried that it would get too, “out there,” for my taste, but was pleasantly surprised the way the author pulled everything together in the end and kept it grounded to reality, while not abandoning a bit of the paranormal.

Overall, I found it a very enjoyable read and felt that it would make a great relaxing read for anyone interested in a good, short thriller to read. There are not many faults to be found in the book, especially if you look at whom it was written for. The only thing I can think of off the bat, is that the language is a bit base, but again this is aimed at teens, not literary scholars. So, I would highly recommend someone to take the time to read this and it is enjoyable. But, do not expect it to be quite on the level of other thriller writers, Dan Simmons or Stephan King. I am going to have to give this 4 out of 5. -Review by Jesse Whitesell
