I am so grateful to be the Tour Host for the Frey blog tour! This book has gotten so many great reviews and after reading it, I know why. Read after my review to learn how you can enter to win the book or a $20 Amazon Gift Card!

Title: Frey
Author: Melissa Wright
Published: 2011
Genre(s): YA, Paranormal
My Rating:
Unaware she's been bound from using magic, Frey leads a small, miserable life in the village where she's sent after the death of her mother. But a tiny spark starts a fury of changes and she finds hersef running from everything she's ever known.

Hunted by council for practicing dark magic, she is certain she's been wrongfully accused. She flees, and is forced to rely on strangers for protection. But the farther she strays from home, the more her magic and forgotten memories return and she begins to suspect all is not as it seems.

I am so grateful to be a reviewer of Frey by Melissa Wright! I have to admit I am a sucker for paranormal books that throw a new and creative character at me, and Frey did just that!

Frey is an orphaned young elf who lives with her grumpy Aunt Fannie, in a village where humans are a myth and magic is reality. One day, while Frey was taking her lessons with Junnie, her mentor, she finally preforms the magic to make things grow….and nothing is ever the same. When Frey runs into her friend-emy Evelyn, she sends her off sneezing with a thistle growing in her throat. Frey didn’t even know how she did it, but somehow she has unlocked a power that was deep inside of her. Now that the Council knows Frey is capable of harmful magic, they want to find her.

Frey is on the run but she is not alone. The handsome Chevelle is Frey’s watcher, and they embark on a journey that will lead her to her true past and a hidden secret. I cannot praise this book enough! Melissa has created an amazing world of magic and intrigue and terrible danger. After I finished the first chapter and really got into the heart of the book, I was hooked! Frey is spunky but tenderhearted, and longs to know where she really came from and why she is so different. We have all been the misfit at one point or another so Frey is a character that all can relate to.

Quickly you start to see a love triangle form….sigh….everyone loves a good love triangle :) I cannot wait to read the next books in the series! Put this one on your “To-Read” List today!
I love this cover! The cover was recently revamped and I'm excited with the new direction Melissa went in. I think my favorite parts of the cover are the fabulous title text and the multi-colored clouds, very unique. I’m giving this cover an A.
I recommend this book to YA paranormal lovers! If you liked this book please check out Melissa's next book in the series, Pieces of Eight!

About the Author

Melissa lives in the Midwest with her family (including a few spoiled dogs and horses), loves to travel but always misses home, and has little to no spare time. If she ever manages to find some, it's spent painting or outdoors (but never at the same time). Frey is her first novel, but she's been bitten by the writing bug, so expect many more to follow.
